Blatantly lifted by me from Icewind Dale because it's a darn good guide that it'd be a shame to just let drown.
Anyhow, Scar's Guide:
BBcode is what you use to make your posts a bit special with effects and links.
Such as this, this, and this.
To make your writing bold, you simply add this code:
For italic writing you add this code:
For underlined writing you add this code:
For changing the size of a word or sentence you just add this code:
(Bigger number = bigger writing. Smaller number = smaller writing.)
For coloured text you add this code:
(Note that you don't add the '=red' to the closing([/color]).)
(Also note that you have to use the US spelling of 'color', not the British spelling 'colour')
I can write rainbow. Can you?
That was the simpler stuff.
If you want more customized colours, you can use this colour table with the next code I'm gonna show you. (Thanks to Athrogate for giving me the link!)
There is, as I said, a way to get more customized colours into your posts, but it's a bit more complicated. You use 6 digit hex-codes and those six digits specify the colour you want.
The code for that would look something like this:
(To change the colour, just find a colour you like in the colour-table and replace the 6 digit code.)
I WARN YOU, OPEN THIS LINK IN A NEW WINDOW AS OPENING IT IN YOUR CURRENT WINDOW WILL LOG YOU OUT!
Ahem...
We now move on to links. How to create links like this.
The code for that would look like this:
As you can see, you write '' to finish that part. Then you have to write the word you want the link to appear as, as in my example 'this'. Then, to end the BBcode link, you finish it with '' where the '/' tells that you are ending the code.
Another thing about links is that I *beg* you make a foot-long url (web address - see Blizzards talent url *shudders*) into one of these links. It's so annoying to see that you have to scroll sideways on a page to be able to read the text. This also goes for pictures, if you're adding a picture that's too big to fit without having to scroll sideways to view it, make it a link or resize it down. I can't begin to explain how much this annoys me.
If you want to add a quote to your post, you could either just click the quote button by the post you want to quote, or do it yourself.
The code for that would look like this:
As you can see, you start with ''.
Now on to listing. That one is really simple, and shouldn't be hard at all.
Example:
The code for that would look like this:
Now, to add an image to your post!
The code for that is:
You can also put links into images.
The code for that would look like this:
(Thanks to laethyn for reminding me of this one!)
These codes that I have explained here also work in signatures.
And as some people haven't figured out how to edit signatures yet, I thought I'd add it to this guide.
Remember, you have to be logged in for this to work.
Go to the Main Index of the forum ( here and log in) and click 'Profile' on the top.
Scroll down to the 'Profile Information' area. Further down there you will see 'Signature'.
Now you can edit it to your hearts delight (but there is a 600 character limit).
There, I'm done. I hope I managed to explain it all simple enough.
Any questions can be asked in here.
