A work that is overlooked by many fans of Lord of the Rings. I've been meaning to read it for years now, and now I have the good fortune of studying it in a class! Wow! It's actually really good. Especially when your already a fairly large fan of Lord of the Rings. Some of the descriptions of the land as far as geography goes are EXTREMELY dry...but if you get past that it's amazingly entertaining. Hearing about the birth of evil, the origin of the elves, the different tribes, the dwarves, the coming of men, and understanding many lineages that I was not aware of before....wow. Not to mention the descriptions of the Valar. For any fan of Lord of the Rings that wants to learn more about Tolkien's INCREDIBLY complex world should check this one out. For you more timid fans, I would actually advise not to get into it. It reads like a history book (albeit an interesting one) so you COULD find it a little dry. Oh, and discussion of any sort (pertaining to the book) is welcome here too! Spoiler warnings, though.
