Not a single noble attending that grand ball could overlook the beauty of the wild flower that had somehow blossomed within their perfectly arranged society garden. All the older ladies especially gathered in their designated cliques, waving their fans furiously and chirping like hysteric birds. No one knew for sure where this mysterious young woman had come from. It seemed obvious that she wasn’t nobility; she looked too shy, too uncertain, too out-of-place.
But no less beautiful.
Her violet dress was low-cut, hugging seductively from her supple bosom to her slender waist where it than fanned out in willowy lavender fabric all the way down to her feet. Her vivid red-brown hair was pinned in a braided bun, yet wisps of tendrils flowed over her bare shoulders. Her creamy skin shown as if with its own inner glow, and her large blue eyes shimmered brightly.
He appeared out of the crowd the moment she stepped onto the dance floor, though nobody realized that he had even stood among them. The ladies waved their fans faster, in spite of themselves. Oh, oh, but he was a handsome devil! An incarnate of darkness itself from his black armor and cloak to his neatly trimmed raven hair. Though his mustache and goatee were small and fine cut, they only seemed to enhance the shadows lingering on his face.
And his eyes!
Orbs of dark gray, cold as steel, no sparkle, no hint of light within. The eyes of death that burned with breathtaking intensity.
As the musicians began an elven waltz, he bowed to her. She held out her hand, and he delicately kissed the back of her palm. Straightening, he placed his free hand upon her waist. Her free hand, instead of lifting her dress to keep it from dragging along the ground, she instead slipped over his shoulder to rest behind his neck.
This dance would be one of intimacy, not formality.
And it was a dance that left the crowd frozen in awe. One, two, three…one, two, three…The pair glided around the floor in a single fluid motion, her dress and his cloak twirling in a three-step spiral of black and violet. Bodies brushing against each other, as the song increased in tempo so did the couple increase their steps of the seductive dance.
The waltz ended and they stopped abruptly, bodies tight together. Their lips were merely inches apart, and then slowly…slowly…he kissed her.
They faded away.
At first, the guests had thought it was a trick of the light. Then they gasped loudly when the pair dematerialized completely.
And finally screams broke out, screams of horror when they all saw the large puddle of blood the couple had left behind.

It was a famous legend that was considered chillingly romantic, quick to spread all up and down the Sword Coast. Calimport seemed especially proud of it for it was one of their elite midsummer balls where the story had originated. It was said that the mysterious couple were actually dueling instead of dancing. And when the waltz had ended, they both fell to the floor, bled to death, a dagger in her side and a small knife in his neck.
The actual occurance had happened many years ago, but to this day nobody understood the significance of the tender kiss the two apparitions now shared.

A/N: Um...yeah...please don't ask what in the Nine Hells I was thinking. I'm unsure myself. ^^;;
