Welcome to the Clandestine Corridors. We all have a character on here and sometimes we might like to play that character. You need not have a sheet with stats for your character; just your imagination and an idea of what kind of personality goes with your chosen name.
That being said there are some rules everyone must follow for this to work out. But not to worry, they are few and easy to remember. If you use your common sense most of this shouldn't be hard to abide.
Which threads can I post in?
You can post in any thread that has the word Public in its title. Always be sure to read the first post in a thread you wish to take part in as well as the last few posts made in that same thread. That way you'll know the setting you'll be entering and the people who are there when you'll be joining. It might require a little reading, but think of this as writing a story together - in order to make things work out you need to keep track of what your companions are doing.
But what about those that don't say Public?
Those threads may also be public, but they can just as well be private. Read the first post in the thread and see what the thread starter had to say. If that does not clear it up, PM the thread starter. If it is a private thread you may not post in it without permission from the thread starter.
I don't care about public and private threads - I'll post where I like!
Then your posts will be deleted and you'll be denied further access to the Corridors.
What will happen in these Corridors?
That is up to you. Your character can talk a calm stroll in the garden just chatting with another character. You can also explore the inner sanctums of the mansion. Only imagination limits your adventures.
Can we do everything we want?
No. When I inherited the place I made sure it was quite solid and stable before I moved in. It's floors will not suddenly crack open to reveal clefts reaching all the way to hidden hell dimensions. There are no Ancient Dragons in my basement unless I say so. Basically, you cannot change the existing architecture and structure of the mansion. Only the GMs/Moderators can do that. That means you cannot conveniently find a secret door leading to the private rooms of your nemesis, nor can you find huge amounts of hitherto unknown monsters in cupboards and closets.
But that means we can't really do anything...?
What do you normally do when you talk to people? Fight off Yuan-ti at every corner? I didn't think so. This is for people to get to know each other's characters, not to show off how much damage your character can take and how much awesome action you can dream up. Be a well-rounded character and immerse yourself in the mansion at your disposal.
But I don't have a character that's good enough...
You don't need one. Think of a name and decide what kind of character it is, you just need to have an idea. The rest of the character will be built and rounded when you interact with other characters.
Okay, I'm good at this I wanna explore new areas
As long as you're not creating completely ridiculous rooms and features to the mansion feel free to make a thread in which you and either a few friends (private thread) or you and everyone else (public thread) can explore The Room of Weird Windows or whatever you might fancy.
What if I'd like to see a bit of action?
If there is a thread where action is suitable once in a while (yes, there will be a few), then you'll have your chance. But be realistic; no godly powers on display if you please. And remember, the thread starter always has the final word. If the thread starter does not want action then there will be none. Period. If the participants in a thread can agree to fight the Boggart under that there bed that's all well and good.
What might we run into in the mansion?
Gee, I don't know. I haven't even been all over the place yet myself. I know there are ghosts. Several of them. Most are quite peaceful, though only few are friendly. You can speak to a few of them, but most will just stick to their routines. There are a select few that are decidedly unfriendly, but what can you do? You can't exactly close the door in their faces with any effect. Well, they may get annoyed, they do know the symbolic value of having a door slammed in one's face.
There will be the occasional boggart, your random gnome-type creature. Most of the big things have been cleared out from the most used places by yours truly. You won't find Gorgons or Ogrim, so don't worry about your safety. Anything you might meet can be outrun.
Are some threads better than others?
Sure, we all have different tastes so you'll like some better than others of course. Not that I'd claim that the Mods have more talent at this than other people, but you can be sure that whatever happens in the Mods' threads are fully sanctioned by me and will be kept a closer eye on.
Personally I can guarantee a little action adventure in some of my threads, but I will not tell you which. You will have to role-play your way to it. And if you don't want the action you can always leave before such things happen, nothing will be sprung on anyone unprepared and unawares.
So what are the mostly used areas?
Well, you'll find that a lot of people find it safe to visit the Library, and you can always find the Librarian there and ask her for advice if you need it.
Take a look around. See if you find an area that offers what you think your character might like.
What if I need to arrange something with a fellow role player?
Then you PM them. The threads in here are only for speaking in character and for making descriptions of what you see.

That was that. Now all that's left to say is:
Go out there and have your fun!
