So this poem jumped out of my head when I was in the shower, causing me to run from said watery joy and quickly write it down.
I was in a poetry slam a few weeks ago with it, and made it to the second round, but lost to a poem about abortion. *mutters subversively*
Anyway, here's the completed poem. I'm actually proud of this one, though I still encourage and thoroughly appreciate all tearings of it to pieces.
Trickling rivulets run,
Seeping through lonely drains.
Cleansing droplets sputtering,
Steaming upon aged cracked tile.
Continuous pressure heavily pounds.
Reminiscient of rainstorms.
Soft tendrils of fog wrapping,
Coiling 'round slender frames of two
Night clad lovers
Withstanding tempestuous Aeolus,
Grasping unfamiliar fingers.
Shy glances through sodden locks
Bespeak unvoiced truths.
Furious howling winds encircle
Darkling pair oblivious of storm's wrath,
Contained within worlds of light
They witness in the other's eyes.
Flickers of reality sinuously call her,
Pulling her back to her soap-filled plight.
Hope-filled bubbles bright with illusion
Succumb to the murky depths
As water washes over all.
A note, for the slam I had to make it longer so it would be a minute long when I read it, so these two lines were added in between "Bespeak unvoiced truths" and "Furious howling winds encircle", making it read like this:
Bespeak unvoiced truths
Barriers blown asunder
Protective walls vanish, unheeded, as
Furious howling winds encircle
I didn't like the addition, and therefore took it out to post it.
Enjoy.
